9 Props You Can “Hide” Behind When You Don’t Feel Like Being On Camera!

Not feeling super photogenic or hate being in front of the camera?? I GOT YOU!

I’m feeling kinda crappy this week (hello PMS, hello my old friend depression) and I’m just not feeling up for being in photos…

However I *know* showing my face is important to growing my business and encouraging connection with my audience…

So what’s a girl to do??

What I’ve found to be helpful for just getting a dang shot is to USE PROPS!! Normal things around the house you can interact with or even “hide behind” if you’re not feeling the most comfortable or photogenic.

A few things I know you’ve got laying around your house:

🌈 A giant rainbow...or at least art supplies to make a cool background :) Check out this post to see the background I made with a pack of cheap tissue paper.

💁🏻‍♀️ Your hair! If you have a super short cut, wear/hold a hat and interact with that instead.

🐶 A dog/pet or human baby! Sorry to call these lovable things a prop, but I think you get what I’m saying :)

🤓 Glasses! You can wear them or hold them — super versatile.

😎 Sunglasses! If you’re stuck at home taking pics, this is your chance to go outside and change up the scenery.

💻 A computer, laptop or phone (some kind of device). An obvious great choice for most of us entrepreneurs :)

👜 A bag or purse! Shows your personality, but also something you can hide behind. VERY COOL.

☕️ A cup of something (coffee, water, a cocktail)! To me, photos with a drink surprisingly help you connect to your audience because EVERYONE loves their drink of choice, so when they see you with it, they’re like YES MY PERSON! When my audience sees me posting about tequila, it’s ✨ instant connection! ✨

🌸 Flowers! Hold them, smell them, take a shot from above with them laying all around you — so many ways you can take cool photos with flowers :)

Looking back at these photos, I know I was having a tough day and didn’t feel like taking pictures...but you’d never be able to tell, right?? Use that creativity of yours to overcome your excuses!

Here’s what I want you to do now:

❶ Save or share this post with someone who could use some inspiration

❷ Whip out your phone and experiment with some of these prop ideas

DM me your self-portraits — it helps to have someone safe to share them with before posting!

Can’t wait to see what you shoot! 📸
